What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports. It is an evidence-based framework used by schools to improve school culture and student behavior, promoting a safe environment for learning. PBIS is based on several decades of research by major universities across the country. A key aspect of PBIS is focusing on more positive behaviors and less on negative behaviors.
We are transitioning to PBIS Rewards which is available to all staff. This new electronic reward system will be available to all teachers and staff members on campus beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. Any school employee will be able to reward your student for following The Gator Way at any time.
Students will receive an ID badge with a bar code that can be scanned to earn Gator Tails, purchase breakfast or lunch in the MPR, check out library books, and track 100 Mile Club miles. Students will also be receiving a lanyard and ID card holder. It will be expected that students wear their lanyard every day while on campus.
We are very excited to consistently reinforce positive behavior as a school site and to reward students as often as possible. Your child’s teacher will give you more information on an ongoing basis.
