Dear Garretson Families,

We know that the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been a hot topic in our community and around the world, so we want to take a moment to share with you the precautions we are taking to ensure the safety of our students and staff here at Garretson Elementary.

For precautionary measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases at our school site, we have:

 Developed a plan where our custodial staff is able to sanitize student touch points at an increased level.
 Supplied each teacher with additional sanitizing cleaner to be used in between custodial cleaning.
 Additional hand sanitizing dispensers have been installed in each cafeteria and other frequently visited locations such as school offices.

All of our teachers have been instructed to remind students about health and safety protocols and best practices for good health and hygiene. We also encourage our families to utilize common-sense precautions to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases:

 Wash your hands.
 Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
 If you don’t have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm.
 Keep students home if they are ill.
 Do NOT send your child to school if he/she has a temperature of 100°F or higher.
Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without having taken fever-reducing medication (i.e. Advil, Tylenol, Motrin, etc.)

Additionally, to answer the many questions about the potential closure of schools, the Corona-Norco Unified School District will rely on the Riverside University Health-Public Health Department to determine if and when any school closures are necessary.

If a case of COVID-19 is found in the Corona-Norco Unified School District, we will follow directions from public health officials which may include closing schools, cancelling activities, and sporting events. It is likely, at a minimum, that CNUSD would close any affected school for at least one day to be disinfected by a third party company that specializes in decontamination.

For more information on what the District is doing in preparation of any potential impact that COVID-19 may have on our community, please visit the District’s website for the latest news and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) https://bit.ly/2IoAbX6

Thank you,
